Celebrate Earth Day on April 21 with an SCFD Free Day at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Special Earth-friendly programming scheduled throughout the day

DENVER – April 15, 2012 –The Denver Museum of Nature & Science invites families and visitors of all ages to celebrate Earth Day during the SCFD Free Day on Sunday, April 21. Supported by Xcel Energy, Museum visitors will enjoy special Earth-friendly activities, such as such as face painting, crafts, and hands-on learning activities about animals, energy, and planetary wellness. Visitors will see Mr. Bones the giant dinosaur puppet, follow a scavenger hunt through the Museum, take a Secrets of the Diorama tour, and help us celebrate the 40th birthday of the roaring saber-toothed cat in the main lobby.

Visitors are encouraged to bring unwanted laptops and cell phones to the Museum to be securely recycled. Also, the Museum Shop is going paperless! Help kick-off this new endeavor by bringing your reusable shopping bag and saving an additional 10% off purchases in the Museum Shop  (Discount does not include books, CDs, or DVDs). Take a special quiz and win a Museum reusable bag.

  • What Happens to Your Recycling? Games and Activities

Get your hands and minds into what happens to plastic, wood, and computers when they get recycled. Play the Treeperdy game and win prizes. Don’t forget to bring your unwanted laptops and cellphones for secure recycling!

  • Saber-Toothed Cat 40th Birthday Celebration

Happy Birthday to our coin-eating Saber-toothed Cat, who has been growling in the Museum for 40 years! Join us for a special “happy birthday” song, enjoy a cookie, and ask questions about what our cat has seen over the years!

  • Xcel Energy Activities

Take a spin on the PowerRide bikes, and test your EQ (energy quotient) by taking the eefficiency proficiency quiz for a great prize.

  • Zoology Touch and See Table

Touch and see amazing specimens from the zoology collections. Elephants, exotic birds, and incredible insects—oh my!
