Press Conference Begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, at the Museum

WHAT

Representatives from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science will summarize the amazing fossil discoveries made at Ziegler Reservoir near Snowmass Village over the past several weeks and discuss the next steps in the scientific process. Fossils found at the dig site will be on display.

BACKGROUND

• Excavation crews from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science have just wrapped up a spectacularly successful fossil dig at Ziegler Reservoir near Snowmass Village, Colorado. The excavation revealed a very well-preserved Ice Age fossil ecosystem that produced Columbian mammoths, American mastodons, a Jefferson ground sloth (the only one ever found in Colorado), Ice Age bison, Ice Age deer, small reptiles, and well-preserved plant material. In all, the Museum crews collected more than 500 fossil bones, plus hundreds of pounds of plant material for analysis. The Ziegler Reservoir fossil site is considered to be one of the most significant scientific discoveries ever made in Colorado.
