DENVER―July 17, 2014― To express its appreciation for decades of support, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has named its new plaza in honor of the Boettcher Foundation. The airy plaza outside the Museum’s new wing has been dedicated as Boettcher Plaza.
“The Museum is grateful for Boettcher Foundation’s generous and consistent support over many decades,” said George Sparks, Denver Museum of Nature & Science president and CEO. “Boettcher Plaza, which will welcome several hundred thousand schoolchildren each year, is a fitting location to recognize the Foundation’s legacy of commitment to the people of Colorado.”
Since 1947, Boettcher Foundation grants to the Museum have totaled more than $6 million and supported capital projects including:
•An addition to the west side, dedicated in 1953, that stood for nearly 50 years
•Diorama halls in the Charles Boettcher II Wing on level 2, including Edge of the Wild, Australia and South Pacific
•Boettcher North American Hall and Africa Hall
•Phipps IMAX Theater and the T-Rex Café and Deli
•Prehistoric Journey, Space Odyssey, and Expedition Health permanent exhibitions
•Morgridge Family Exploration Center and Rocky Mountain Science Collections Center.
In addition, Claude K. Boettcher served on the Museum’s board from 1928 to 1957.
“We are pleased that this beautiful space will honor the legacy of the Boettcher Family and their long-term commitment to the Museum,” said Tim Schultz, president and executive director of the Boettcher Foundation. “We hope the plaza serves as a reminder of the power of philanthropy and the importance of supporting cultural institutions like the Museum.”
