Denver Museum of Nature & Science Awarded Geothermal Energy Grant

Denver, CO - May 24, 2024 - The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant through Gov. Jared Polis’ Geothermal Energy Grant Program. The Museum will be awarded $250,000 to prove the viability of moving from natural gas to geothermal resources. The $7.7 million in total grant awards, announced by the governor and the Colorado Energy Office (CEO), will advance the use of geothermal technology across the state.

Gov. Polis’ initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create stable, well-paying jobs while ensuring affordable and reliable access to clean energy for all Coloradans. This investment supports 35 innovative projects, including the installation of geothermal heat pumps, development of interconnected geothermal systems between buildings and testing geothermal resources for zero-emissions electricity generation.

"This grant represents a significant step forward in our efforts to reduce emissions and combat climate impacts. We are excited to lead by example, showing how businesses can contribute to the city and state's environmental goals," said George Sparks, President and CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. "We are deeply grateful for the state’s support through this grant, which aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability.”
