Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed Comes to

Cherry Creek North, LoDo’s Bar & Grill 

Stone monument replicas placed in multiple locations highlight exhibit open through Aug. 24 

DENVER—Stone monument replicas, called stelae, are appearing in the Denver-metro area. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science partnered with Harmonic Media to create three stelae replicas that have been placed in Cherry Creek North and LoDo’s Bar & Grill locations encouraging people to visit the Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibit on display now through Aug. 24 at the Museum. 

Stelae: Stories in Stone

To assert their direct link to the gods, Maya rulers commissioned carved stelae, the glyphs and images from which described a ruler’s royal pedigree or his or her role in historical or mythological events. Erecting these stones in public places was one way leaders proclaimed their power. Today, stelae are the most important source of information on Maya kings. Visitors to Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed will see replicas of two such stelae, witness their massive size, and see the incredible detail in the scenes they depict.  

Photo Contest

The public is encouraged to take their picture with the stelae and upload them to Instagram using hashtag #CCNMaya. Contest winners will receive a four pack of tickets to the Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibit and a Cherry Creek North gift card. The contest will run through April 18.
