Museum will offer free admission to military personnel and their families through Labor Day
DENVER―May 20, 2015―The Denver Museum of Nature & Science announces its participation in the Blue Star Museums program, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free general admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel, including the National Guard Reserve, and up to five members of their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2015.
The program provides families with an opportunity to enjoy the nation’s cultural heritage and learn more about their new community after a military move. Members of the military and their families may take advantage of this program at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science from May 25 to Sept. 7.
“We are proud to be part of this collaboration that helps connect military families with cultural experiences in their communities, and we look forward to welcoming them to our Museum throughout the summer,” said George Sparks, president and CEO of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
“Parents of young children tell us that they go together to museums to learn new things and have family time together,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Blue Star Museums helps them do both, by helping military families learn about the cultural resources in their communities, and offering a fun, high-quality experience that’s budget friendly as well as family friendly. We’re proud to help connect museums to military communities nationwide.”
This year, more than 2,000 museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative, including science museums, art museums, history museums, nature centers, and dozens of children’s museums.
