New online experience by Google, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and other natural history institutions around the world brings rarely seen collections to the public for free

DENVER – Sept. 13 – The Denver Museum of Nature & Science and Google Cultural Institute invite people to experience Google Arts & Culture, an interactive online discovery of the diversity and fragility of nature in an unprecedented way.

Opening today, the new online exhibition available at g.co/naturalhistory – a partnership between Google and some of the world’s most emblematic natural history institutions will enable web users to discover natural history treasures in a fun, inviting way.

Google Arts & Culture uses state-of-the-art technology to bring virtual life to extinct animals and tell fascinating stories about our planet’s evolution over billions of years. For example, viewers will come face-to-face with Jurassic giants in 360 degree videos, giving a better sense of how these animals lived and what it might have felt like to be in their presence.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science created “The Dinosaur on Your Dinner Table,” a multimedia exhibit experience designed specifically for Google Cultural Institute. Through engaging video, archival photos and interpretive text, viewers are treated to the ironic story of the wild turkey, the largest living dinosaur that escaped a giant asteroid and natural selection only to land on our dinner tables at Thanksgiving.

In addition to the exhibit, Google Arts & Culture visitors can view photos of 150 items from the Museum’s collections. These items are not on display in the Museum, so this online experience allows access to these priceless objects, sharing something few others have been privileged to see.

“We are always looking for ways to reach people wherever they are, so we jumped at the chance when Google approached us about creating an exhibit to be part of its online natural history project,” said Nancy Walsh, the Museum’s vice president of partnerships and programs. “The prospect of sharing ‘The Dinosaur on Your Dinner Table’ virtual exhibit and objects from our collections with people around the globe is exciting, and we hope they surprise, delight and inspire people.”

Google Arts & Culture works together with more than 1,000 organizations to put the world’s cultural treasures at the fingertips of Internet users and is building tools that allow the cultural sector to share more of its diverse heritage online.

For the new exhibition, natural history institutions from 15 countries created more than 100 interactive stories, sharing a total of 300,000 photos, videos and other documents online in collaboration with Google. The latest innovations in tech help bring the magic of these legendary venues to life, and give everyone a chance to reconnect with our evolution story and our planet environment in all its richness.

The new online exhibition opens today at g.co/naturalhistory and is open for all online, for free on the web and through the new Google Arts & Culture mobile app on iOS and Android. All the 360 degree videos are available on YouTube.
