Dr. Scott Sampson to Deliver Free Public Lecture
DENVER—October 15, 2013—Dr. Scott Sampson, vice president of research and collections and chief curator at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, will present a free public lecture in conjunction with the 125th Anniversary Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America, being held 27–30 October 2013 at the Colorado Convention Center.

In this presentation, Dr. Scott Sampson, vice president of research and collections at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, charts a pathway toward a nature-rich future. Key elements of this journey include abundant multisensory experiences in the outdoors combined with nature literacy tied to local place. Sampson proposes that it is through the lens of place-based understanding that earth sciences play an essential role, contributing to a deep time story that encompasses stars, planets, life, and us. Celebrating 125 Years of Advances in Geoscience
GSA’s Annual Meeting is an important forum for exchanging current geoscience research, honoring scientific achievement, and providing opportunities for discussion and fellowship among scientists and students. At this year’s 125th anniversary celebration, particular emphasis will be placed upon the accomplishments of the geological sciences and the Society over the past 50 years as we look to the future. Highlights include a record number of technical sessions and symposia, a large exhibit hall, and numerous special events including a new geology-inspired symphony (Formations) to be performed by the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra at a gala black-tie dinner. More than 8,000 geoscientists are expected to attend.
