Soak up the vitality of the Caribbean’s largest island nation without a plane ticket in the new temporary exhibition “¡CUBA!,” now open at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science through Jan. 20.
This is a lively exhibition for all ages, where you’ll be immersed in the extraordinary biodiversity, cultural traditions and daily life of this intriguing country. Stroll along a “plaza” lined with activities and displays featuring the stories behind Cuban icons — such as poster art, cigars, dominoes, coffee, baseball and vintage cars — and peer into beautiful re-creations of the island’s habitats, introducing you to distinctive animals both modern and extinct. You won’t soon forget this place of stunning contrasts. Presented in English and Spanish. The exhibition is free with general admission.

Cuba IMAX Film with Director Peter Chang
Experience a land of spectacular beauty that’s home to people renowned for their passion in the film “Cuba.” The island nation is preserved in time yet poised on the cusp of dramatic change. You will be transported across breathtaking island landscapes, below the ocean surface to dazzling reefs and into streets invigorated by music and dance in the heart of Havana. After the film, director Peter Chang will discuss the making of the film and reflect on his time in Cuba.

Indigenous Film: “Taino Daka (I Am)”
The documentary film “Taino Daka (I Am)”explores Taino history and culture, and indigenous identity throughout the Caribbean and the diaspora. Today, Tainos are on a quest to claim their own identity and rewrite their history. Presented in partnership with the International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management and the Denver American Indian Commission.

Digital Earth: Cuba
Travel to Cuba with the help of immersive satellite images projected onto the full dome of Gates Planetarium. Geologist Bob Reynolds and space science curator Ka Chun Yu will guide you across the largest island nation in the Caribbean, from the capital city of Havana to the historic city of Santiago de Cuba. Guest presenter Kaifa Roland will discuss her extensive fieldwork in Cuba and the global processes that have shaped cultural practices in Cuba.
